"Do theories that have been applied to the Iranian Revolution shed light on contemporary events? In what ways has Iranian society changed in the thirty years following the Revolution and how have these changes affected political alignments? How have the class, ethnic, religious and other group structures changed? What, for example, is the current position of the bazaar (and of the groups that make up the bazaar)? What about the various groups of workers? What are the consequences of continued controversy among the "clergy" about the Velayat-e faqih? Do the same groups that supported the consolidation of the Revolution still support the Islamic regime? If so, why? If not, why not? How has the position of Iran within the international system changed economically, politically and ideologically? In what ways have these transformations facilitated or inhibited change in Iranian society and in the Iranian state?"--Haverford Calendar
Symposium held on December 5, 2009 at Haverford College, Chase Auditorium.
